the 3 tracks with the femme vox is lovely unfortunately the male singer dominates the rest of the disc and in my humble opinion is total and absolute crap. honestly he's really bad mainstream seeking rubbish. download and keep 3 tracks delete the rest

Well I had fun singing my parts. For the record, there were at least three of us singing, so 'scavanging' actually despises TWO of us, not just one. Ann was very good, I agree.

For the "Scavenging Angel":
Good for you!
It's a rare treat to get an honest reaction!
I'm the "male singer" whose work you didn't like.
I wasn't satisfied with it either, but I had promised to put out a vinyl record to accompany a friend's commercial art project, and this was all I could do with borrowed lab time at school. I have set up my own website in order to give away MP3s of my lter songs (1972-2007) to make people forget my work on "Sunrise", which I agree was amateurish and affected (I wrote the songs when I was between the ages of 14 and 16). I can't really believe that anyone is still listening to "Sunrise" after 30 years (imagine finding your high school english assignments reviewed on the internet 35 years after you wrote them). Anyway, you can download my later songs for free at www.heffmunson.com, and I hope you will find something you like. If you don't like any of my later stuff either, that's fine, too, and please feel free to say so.
I am trying to get two more of the "femme vox" songs released later this year as "bonus tracks" on yet another "Sunrise" reissue (on CD).
Thanks again for your honest message.

I like the rich and rocky "male vocal stuff" a LOT MORE than the spare "femme vox" tracks. I guess it all depends on whether you are looking for acoustic folkie-stuff or vintage electronic rock. I see a lot of idealism and thought in ALL the songs, though, so I couldn't echo the hate and anger "scavenging angel" seems to feel for music that doesn't appeal to her tastes. If you like innocent folk-inspired songs, you might like the female vocal tracks. If you like earnest and sincere late-60's prog-rock music (as to I), you might like the rest.

Cheers!

Update, April 30, 2008:
1. "Sunrise" has been reissued on CD with four additional "bonus" tracks.
2. "Dreams" (the followup album) has also been reissued on CD with six additional bonus tracks.
3. "YouTube" now contains free videos (one slideshow plus three live performances) of songs from the "Dreams" CD. The "YouTube" videos can be accessed under "theseventhdawnus".

I think that Heff is being far too tolerant of petty and unwarrented criticism. And, while he is the creator of much of the music on the disc and as such, his opinion can hardly be discounted or minimized, please consider the following...

And oh, by the way, when anyone asserts their "humble opinion" as an absolute, then it pretty much invalidates the statement and reveals more about the author than they may realize...

Heff, if you want to know why people are listening to "Sunrise" 30 years after it's initial release, here's why...

---Though in your mind it is amateurishly recorded and performed, the songs are for the most part (with On The Open Road being the exception), very well written and executed, especially for what is a shoestring production.

---Affected? Maybe a little. Sincere and honest? Certainly. And this outweighs the former quality a hundred times over.

---The is a beyond refreshing sense of optimism and idealism that permeates the entire album. The track "Free" is one of the most moving and heart-tugging songs I've ever heard. Give yourself a little more credit, man. Of course we are all our own worst critics (except for those with not-so-humble opinions, of course) and it is easy to find fault with our efforts, but such self-deprecation is not warranted.

---Nearly every person I've played this album for (and it must be at least 100), has remarked on its beauty, honesty, and innocence. They all have heard the same things I've heard in the record. I'm not glossing over imperfections or faults, or trying to turn a "pet fave" of mine into something beyond its true merits. This is a lovely piece of work.

A lot of days and nights have gone flashing by, since the release of "Sunrise." I would never part with my copy. You should have heard Seventh Dawn live at the Druid wedding, in the late '70's. I have some entertaining photos of that....

"Free" is an all-time favorite song of mine, and I've gone on record saying so in the Acid Archives book I published in 2006. It's like something from the late '60s Beatles. The entire album is good, but does require a certain love for innocent and sincere 1970s music.
